My experience with Adelpha Breast Thermography
My experience with Adelpha Breast Thermography
When I first heard that Therma-Scan of Michigan, LLC and Adelpha Breast Thermography I immediately thought it was something I should do… in a few years. Then I read the cover of the brochure “Are you among the 35+ million women age 35 who has yet to have a breast HEALTH screening?”. I mean I always schedule a yearly well visit with my general practitioner and I even see a Nurse Practitioner specializing in functional medicine for issues my GP just couldn’t get a handle on. But having turned 35 earlier this year I decided to take the step myself, share my experience with my loved ones, and with the readers of the Sage Wellness Center blog. I immediately knew the choice was right when those working close to me sang praise with a “Good on you for taking this step for your health”
Having been a frequent customer of Healthy Habitz prior to my employment at the Sage Wellness Center I had seen the brochure for Adelpha a few times and I knew it was a breast health screening providing information on breast health, cancer concerns and early detection. I wanted to set an example for those around me, have the ability to speak candidly about the experience and encourage others with honest feedback. Scheduling online was a big perk for me, my first choice was here at the Sage Wellness Center for location, but I saw many other convenient options. I was able to pick an evening time slot that worked for my family to give me time to step away and make this a priority for my health.I received an email confirming my appointment and with the next steps to complete my breast health history online to review with the technician the day of the scan. I also noticed a couple of accommodations I’d have to make a few days before the scan such as not partaking in the infrared sauna or Vitamin D Vitality Bed, as well as no caffeine for a few hours before the scan.
Having set the signs out myself I knew right where to go to meet the technician. But for those of you who might not know the Sage Wellness Center is located in Uptown north main at the East end of the building. I was greeted with a warm smile and immediately put at ease in a dimly lit room containing a comfortable chair, a table with a computer for intake information, a tub of water, and the camera connected to another computer. The technician first went over how I would receive my results and provided a business card with a number to call with any questions. She then instructed me to disrobe above the waist and to raise my arms for the acclimation period. During that time we went over the breast health history I had completed online where we confirmed, discussed and clarified all information. We confirmed the contact information for the health care providers that I had indicated should receive the results as well. During this process I realized that my breast health is something I have not thought much about after the time I spent breastfeeding my children. I found it fascinating to learn that other clients have received results and worked with their chosen practitioner to improve their breast health in a way that was measurable on their next Thermography scan.
After the acclimation period we took the first round of images facing front, left and right. Then for the least comfortable part of the process I submerged my hands in cold water for 1 minute. Then the technician handed me paper towels to assure no cold water flicked or dripped onto my chest then we repeated the imaging process. After that I was able to get dressed. We reviewed when to expect the results and the process was done. I left the office feeling empowered and proud of this step I had taken to know more about my current health status. I look forward to going through this painless process again in the future.
I am so thankful for the Sage Wellness Center bringing in specialized practitioners like those part of Therma-Scan of Michigan, LLC and Adelpha Breast Thermography to educate and support the community in so many aspects of health and wellness.
